4th Middle East Safety Management Congress, Dubai - Evaluating Rapid Response And Post-Trauma Support
Released on = November 16, 2006, 1:27 am
Press Release Author = Carole Spiers Group
Industry = Small Business
Press Release Summary = Presentation To Focus On The Importance Of Preparing In Advance To Help Staff Cope With The Horror Of Traumatic Events
Press Release Body = Trauma is becoming more and more a part of life. Whether this is as a result of natural or manmade disasters, terrorist attacks, crime or family related tragedies, the outcomes are often the same.
With incidents involving an organisation\'s employees, research shows that how the organisation treats its staff in the aftermath of a traumatic incident will have a profound effect, not only on the recovery of the individuals involved, but also on their colleagues, their productivity, and their commitment to the organisation moving forward.
Carole Spiers, the UK\'s leading Stress Guru, will be visiting Dubai for the 4th Middle East Safety Management Congress (26-30 November 2006), to alert business leaders regarding the serious threats posed to their organisations by incidents. She will also be available for media comment, briefings etc.
"If you run your own business, you will already have introduced measures to protect the continuity of your systems and operations, if the worst should happen. But what you may not have considered is the need to ensure the wellbeing of your staff is similarly protected," explains Carole Spiers. "You (or your HR managers) may find yourselves playing a key role in managing a situation which may ultimately be far more damaging to the organisation than the traumatic event itself."
During her presentation, Carole will explain how an effective post trauma support programme needs to include: careful selection and training of staff who are to work in potentially dangerous or aggressive environments; well designed emergency procedures and action plans; an education programme detailing potential hazards; dedicated on-scene support; professional backup following the incident (aimed at providing short and long-term psychological support as needed); and how experience in counselling, psychological debriefing and post trauma management are vital in enabling traumatic incidents to be handled professionally and effectively.
"Whether or not a traumatic event has happened to you yet, it\'s clear you need to be prepared for the fallout of a critical incident, often in the form of panic, anxiety or violence on the part of a victim, witness or even perpetrator," says Carole.
The 4th Middle East Safety Management Congress is taking place at the Metropolitan Palace Hotel, Deira, Dubai, UAE, from 26-30 November 2006.
